My truck started life as a fire truck in Colorado and ended up on a farm in N. Dakota.A friend bought the truck cab and mounted it on a 1981 bread truck frame. As he had a metal shop he also made the bed. He then went to sit in the truck to find he could not fit!He is 6ft 6in.So he sold it to me. The fist thing was to strip everything. The frame was sand blasted and the sheet metal was meadea blasted. The cab had NO rust but plenty of dents. It took me 3 months just to do the body work. The cab is the same as a pick up but from the cowl forward you are on your own. When i got the truck the grill was a real mess. After a lot of searching i found a old junk yard in New England that had some old trucks , but very rusty.Anyway it took 3 trucks to make one complete grill, with 15 stainless bars. Then with the help of a friend Cecil Talor we reformed the grill shell for the stainless teeth. I painted the frame grey metalic and set the 502 Big Block chevy 700R4 trans. in place.SWEET! I found a bumper in New Jersey and had brought down.It was shaped like a half moon, so i took it to Cecils and put it in his BIG brake and flattened it out, leaving the ends curved. This along with all the dash trim, window mouldings, hood badge and parking lights went up to Jon Wrights Custom Chrome Plating in Ohio. With all the sheet metal ready to paint ,my friend Steve McConald came and layed down the Apricot and Violet pearl.I still have over spray on the floor! Once the cab was back on the frame ,with the help of my wife Nadine we wired the truck.Next was to run the throttle cable 14 feet and shiffter cable 14 feet from the cab back to the engine and transmission which I got from Lokar. Finally the upholstery, i got a Ts Design bench seat done in a nice soft tan leather and had my brother in law Charlie Ackerman do the doors, head Liner and carpet. The truck has a radio, cruise control,A/C,power brakes and power steering.
