1962 Bubbletop Owner Ron Benson Age 68 Occupation: Welding Engineer A friend gave me the Belair in 1998, it was his parts car for a restoration he was performing. The understanding was that I would get the car when his was finished. During the next 5 years he kept current of the parts he was cannibalizing and I would search junk yards on vacation and the internet fore parts. I picked up the car October 2006 and that is the start date. Since the car would not fit in my garage, I discussed with my neighbors that I intended to build the car in the drive way, but would keep the area clean and the car covered; with no nays I was ready. December 2006, sand blast was completed, since due to space the body could not be removed a considerable amount of hand wire brushing and grinding was required to remove the primer on the frame and under body. Over the next 4 years I have completed most of the project myself with the exception of body paint. I have done all the other work myself including but not limited to replacing quarter panels, floor board patches, wiring, painting of the firewall and fabrication of many parts. I have used well over 100 total cans of primer, paint, under coat and trunk paint. As of July 15, 2010 the car has been started but not driven. Engine 409, 471” built by Jack Gill Heads Edelbrock blanks modified by Lemar Waldon Richmond 5 speed Moser 9” rear end.
