Dupli-Color Challenge - This was a 9 year concours restoration by David Radford of Labelle, FL. David had built two other 67's, Bloomington 98 & 99 pt. cars, twenty years ago. One day in 2000, his sons, David & Mack, ran across some old photos and talked their Dad into doing one more restoration. A real car guy, he could not stay out of the premium collector car world for long and vowed to build a car with his sons. The pictures don't justify this car and the story can't recall all the details and research gone into making this car. The goal at the onset was to build a car that GM would have if time money were not an option (a Bill Mitchell car). The frame has been displayed at Knoxville, Corvette Expo 2008 and appeared in magazine Vette Vues, May 08. The car started as a rough rear clip and frame nine years ago. It sat for a long time while Dave gathered the money and parts at swap meets around the country. Most people buy parts now on the internet, it's easier, but Dave has to hold the part in his hands. He inspected many NOS parts micro managing - right! Dave wanted to do most of the work himself, vowing not to hurry a labor of love. The car contains all the correct date coded part numbers down to the alternator diodes, dated shocks, original bias tires, paint shim marks, rims, NOS cigarette lighter, carbs, etc. Sometimes spending ten times more for NOS items, Dave used very few reproduction parts. Paint materials used for the frame and body was both Duplicolor and PPG, depending on the part and location, matched to original photos, specs, and GM documents and then painted at Dave's home garage. The engine is the original 427/435hp tri-power dyno tuned L-71, built to original specs. The car was finally driven for the first time on July 4th, 2010...nine years after starting with just half a body! Thanks for your consideration.
