I have wanted to do this project for more years than I can count. The first jeep I ever drove was in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam in 1968. It was Air Force blue and to the best of my recollection this is what it looked like. After spending 36 years in the Air Force (active duty and reserves) I wanted to pay tribute to all veterans especially those from the Vietnam era. I spent many hours in my garage stripping, cleaning, and painting parts. I had set a goal or completion date of Memorial Day 2010. There were many missed meals and a few nights of lost sleep, or the quick trip to the garage at two am. There were also a few missed family events much to my wife's dismay. Every nut, bolt, screw and washer was either cleaned or replaced. As you can see by the pictures this was a complete frame off restoration. And yes the promise made to my grandsons (Max and Myles would be the first to ride in Grampie's Jeep) was made a reality in May 2010. This project has been trying at times, but the final result was all worth it. It was my small way to pay tribute to the military that was such an important part of my life. Also the joy on my grandsons faces, as they waved their American flags high during the parade in Grampie's Jeep. And last but not least my wife, for her support and help. Many times she dropped what she was doing to help me during this project.
